Relationship between Organizational Culture, Leadership Behavior and Job Satisfaction

A growing number of companies claim to place a high priority on the wellbeing of their workers — and there is a fast-growing industry of firms selling products related to employee wellbeing. But does investing in employee wellbeing actually lead to higher productivity and are there any tangible benefits to the business bottom line? Experimental evidence such as Oswald et al suggests that the answer is yes, but until now, real-world evidence has largely been missing. To begin to answer this question more systematically, we collaborated with the analytics and advisory company Gallup to look into its client database. Gallup has been gathering data on employee wellbeing, alongside productivity and firm performance outcomes, since the mids. We conducted a meta-analysis of independent studies accumulated by Gallup, including the wellbeing and productivity of 1,, employees and the performance of 82, business units, originating from independent organisations across 49 industries in 73 countries. Higher employee wellbeing is associated with higher productivity and firm performance.

Job satisfaction is critical to high productivity, motivation and low employee turnover. Employers face the challenges of finding ways to increase job satisfaction so their businesses stay competitive. A global economy of discriminating consumers has placed demands on employers never before seen. Employers face the challenges of maintaining productivity, profitability as well as keeping their workforce engaged and satisfied with their jobs. A new survey conducted by the Conference Board showed only 45 percent of Americans are satisfied with their jobs.

In doing so, an integrated model was developed to examine the primary performance drivers of nurses in Vietnamese hospitals and focus on the effects of high-quality workplace relationships on the working attitudes of the staff. This study analyzed a questionnaire survey of hospital nurses using a structural equation modeling approach. The findings demonstrated the positive effects of high-quality workplace relationships on working manners including higher commitment, lower level of reported job stress, and increased perception of social impact. In addition, the social impact was illustrated to positively moderate the association between healthy workplace interactions and job stress; however, it had no significant effect on job commitment. Unfortunately, job commitment was surprisingly found to not be related to performance ratings. This paper provides some suggestions for the divergence of performance drivers in the hospital context in Vietnam.

Happiness and Life Satisfaction

Numerous studies show that job stress is far and away the major source of stress for American adults and that it has escalated progressively over the past few decades. Increased levels of job stress as assessed by the perception of having little control but lots of demands have been demonstrated to be associated with increased rates of heart attack, hypertension, and other disorders. In New York, Los Angels and other municipalities, the relationship between job stress and heart attacks is so well acknowledged, that any police officer who suffers a coronary event on or off the job is assumed to have a work-related injury and is compensated accordingly including heart attack sustained while fishing on vacation or gambling in Las Vegas.
